The most surprising thing about being a first-time mom is the emotional and physical demand despite being a psychiatric nurse myself!
My expectation vs. experience breastfeeding was I recall my first few breastfeeding sessions at the hospital were horrific. I was trying so hard and nursed 45 mins on each side leading to bleeding nipples. First self care lesson learned in motherhood -- I don't have to force myself.
The best piece of advice about motherhood is this too shall pass.
